Frequently Asked Questions

What is Physical Therapy?

Physical Therapy is defined as rehabilitation of the patient in which pain is alleviated, movement is maximized and function is restored. With a wide array of therapeutic treatments at their disposal, physical therapists are able to develop a plan of care which best serves the individual. These therapy programs are specifically tailored with personal goals in mind in order to safely and quickly return each patient to their desired level of function. An emphasis is also placed on educating the patient, greatly increasing long-term rehabilitation potential and aiding in the prevention of future injury.

Who Needs Physical Therapy?

Physical Therapy may be recommended to anyone experiencing pain or dysfunction leading to a decrease in the quality of life and/or interfering with normal daily activities. Indications for physical therapy include:

  • Chronic or Acute Pain
  • Pre or Post Surgical
  • Neuromuscular Problems
  • Any Injury which limits function

  • How Do I Get A Prescription For Physical Therapy?

In order to receive physical therapy, the individual must see their physician. The physician will then give you a prescription for physical therapy and refer you to a physical therapy clinic. Prescriptions are valid for 30 days and will be honored for your treatment.

Can I Have Physical Therapy Without A Prescription?

Yes. According to Florida State Law you may receive up to 21 days of physical therapy without a prescription. To have further care you would then be required to see a physician. Insurance companies will not pay for physical therapy without a prescription. Therefore, you would have to pay cash.

How Long Will My Treatments Last?

The average physical therapy appointment should last approximately 30-60 minutes. This appointment time depends on the plan of care set up by your therapist. Your physician and therapist will determine the number of weeks therapy will last, as well as the number of visits per week. The average therapy prescription is 3 visits a week for 4 weeks.
